Monitoring crontab process

Is there any way to monitor the crontab process itself? We have several cron jobs that do batch processing and we've run into a problem with cron crashing occassionally, meaning our batch processes aren't run. I know I could write a script to watch a process and run the script through cron, but that kind of defeats my purpose.

Ideally, I'd like to monitor the crontab process with SNMP if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on how your cron "crashes" ....
If it actually dies you're fine, you can run a
script from rc.local that checks
ps aux | grep cron
every minute, and screams when its gone.

Cheers,
Tink
