Monitor Question
 

I finally got my drivers and dispilay to work correctly but I have a question.

My hertz frequency goes up about 15 hertz in a 16 bit color mode with a 1240x1024 in red hat and when I boot up my windows the frequency is less.

So my question is will this harm my monitor at all ?

Are you referring to the vertical refresh? If you're talking about a change from say 60Hz to 75Hz it's could be alright. Do you know the horizontal and vertical specs for your monitor? Normally they'll be in the user manual somewhere. If what you're seeing falls into the acceptable range for the monitor I wouldn't worry. (Of course, I'm thinking of the problems you might run into if you overdrive a CRT; LCDs may not be subject to the same sorts of problem. Don't know much about the LCD monitors yet.)

Sounds like maybe Windows is doing a crummy job of using your hardware to its full potential. And here we thought one of the advantages of Windows was all their wonderful hardware device drivers. :-)

Most LCD monitors work best with a refresh rate of 60Hz, something to do with the way the light is emitted in comparison to the phosphors of CRTs.

75Hz shouldn't hurt it though (any LCDs I have had the chance to play with all mentioned 75Hz as acceptable in the user manual) Even still you should probably read the docs :)
