monitor position

hi, i am completely new to linux, and i have just set up redhat 7.3 on my home system. I have everything up and running except my monitor is shifted to the right. I have made sure that my monitor is correct using xf86config, and then i have used xvidtune (under root) to center my screen. It centers up perfect, however, when i restart my pc it resets and i have to run xvidtune each time. Sooo, my question is, how do i get it to STAY SET?!

i have gotten it to show in the shell, and it shows something like this.:
Num hsync:1, Num vsync:1
hsync range 0: 31.50 - 82.00
vsync range 0: 50.00 - 160.00
"1024*768" 94.5 1024 1088 1184 1376 768 769 772 808 +hsync +vsync

i have also found a file i can cat in etc/x11/xf86config that shows quit a bit of information on different monitor resolution and pixels, however, i am not sure how to modify it nor am i sure what information should go in it from above, plus i dont have a regular times symbol that linux uses, mine looks like this ( * ).... so , if you could, please help.

p.s. above the first line in the show it also shows Vendor name and info, if that is relevant at all

most monitors need to be adjusted. it should have an on screen menu to adjust it. The settings are saved in the monitor so that when the same input signal is detected it will use the settings.

I had one like that, using ctrl+alt+F2 to go to a terminal and then alt+F7 back to X would sync it. It was only that way with my Voodoo card, the monitor syncs with other cards.

You could also try a different frequency in windows or Linux, maybe the monitor will know the difference and save each setting seperately.

Try telling X you have a different model of monitor that what yours actually is. (I have no idea how to do that except when installing RH.) The settings for you model could not match what your monitor actually needs.

Why I say this is because RH 7.2 settings for my monitor do not work properly (or my monitor got stampled with the wrong model #). I have a packard bell PnP 2040s and when I choose that model during setup the resolution would go no higher than 800x600.
Lucky for me, RH7.2 probes for the monitor upon installation and detected model # 5040E or something like that and those settings work great so I didn't have to hunt for one that would work.
