modprobe i810_audio at startup?

My computer has never liked ALSA, so I went back to what good ol' Red Hat used, and that was i810_audio... thing. (In case you haven't noticed, I'm not very learned when it comes to computer audio, all I know it, i810 works, ALSA doesn't). I read that all I would have to do is add

alias sound i810_audio

to my /etc/modules.conf file, but that didn't do anything (I'm using Slackware, does it differ from distro to distro?). What should I change it to so it loads this module at startup? Also is there a guide for adding other things to modprobe at startup? I'm trying to get a few other things modprobe'd at startup, so if there is a guide on the modules.conf syntax, I would love to see it.

I use Slackware and i810. I have the line "/sbin/modprobe snd-intel8x0" in my file /etc/rc.d/rc.modules.
