Modifying a .gif file

Hi there --

I have a .gif file that I would like to modify in the following manner: I would like to modify the text within the image while preserving the format of the font. What, if any, editor could I use to accomplish this? Thanks.

you'd be looking for an image editor. the gimp is the most widely used image editor for linux afaik. it is probably already installed. hope that helps.
good luck.

A gif is a compressed "raster" image file. All it contains is information that allows a rectangular grid of pixels to be displayed - per pixel information.

It doesn't contain fonts as such, just the images of characters that have been generated by fonts.

So there is no way to edit the text in a gif, you can only alter the pixels that make up that text.

One option would be to identify the font and format used in the image, and then using gimp or whatever, overwrite the text with whatever you want.
