/mnt/floppy locked ??
A newbie question I'm afraid.
I'm partially locked out of my floppy drive. I can format and read disks but writing is impossible. I have all permissions as user and root, nothing seems to work...

Pl. post the error message that you get while trying to write. I have seen floppies allowing me to do mformat and then while trying to write, it complains about bad sectors. This, I think, is baecause mformat just erases fat.

in a console I get I/O error and in the GUI (KDE 2) just /mnt/floppy locked. That's all I'm afraid.
I'm thinking about reinstalling because I haven't enough free space for the future in my linux partitions and no partition manager can touch a disk under linux without scrapping everything(except PM).

If it's with all disks, even as root it may be something with your floppy drive (check cables).
You have programs to change partition sizes, even 2. One is parted, working from console, the second one is Mandrake installer. You can just reboot after you change your partition sizes.
