mkfs.vfat

I just got this cool new hard drive, and I partitioned it out and everything. But when I do mkfs.vfat -F 32 /dev/hda3 it seems to work, although the format is very fast.

So I go and check what the file system is and its ext3. I can use it, but ext3 is not what I want.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

I would use linux fdisk to change the partition type ( -t ) to c which is fat32.
Then you can format the file system using mkfs.vfat /dev/hda3

Thanks, I never noticed you could change the partition type in fdisk before. Works perfectly.
