i just got a second harddrive and am trying to use it for backup purposes.
i attempted to make a new directory as in the subject above, but got a problem with a read only filesystem error. (funny, it worked before i ran mount -a if i recall, since i was able to successfully delete lost+found)
i suppose my fstab is incorrect, but this is what it looks like:
Code:
LABEL=/ / ext2 defaults 1 1
LABEL=/boot /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
LABEL=/home /home ext2 defaults 1 2
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
LABEL=/usr /usr ext2 defaults 1 2
LABEL=/var /var ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb1 /backup ext3 defaults 1 2
mount displays the following:
Code:
/dev/hda6 on / type ext2 (rw)
none on /proc type proc (rw)
/dev/hda2 on /usr type ext2 (rw)
/dev/hda5 on /var type ext3 (rw)
/dev/hda1 on /boot type ext3 (rw)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
/dev/hda3 on /home type ext2 (rw)
none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
/dev/hdb1 on /backup type ext3 (rw)
not sure what else it could be... i assume i have to fix my fstab, but how?
btw, i am willing to reformat this drive correctly if i did something wrong in the format.
