mk_initrd, loading multiple modules?

I am using SuSE Linux 9.1 Pro. I have a bit of a concern, and was hoping to try and address this before I reboot the system.

I am trying to get my system running proeprly with a RAID card, however, the initial ramdisk image is only loading the reiserfs module... which it kindof needs to, or else it won't see my reiserfs partitions. I am trying to also load the RAID drivers into the initrd file as well. I went into /etc/sysconfig/kernel and modified it so I have the following:

INITRD_MODULES="reiserfs"
INITRD_MODULES="3w-9xxx"

so, I save the file with those in it, and I run mk_initrd. It tells me this:

Module List: 3w-9xxx

It continues as normal from there, but it mentions nothing of the reiserfs module. How come it is only showing the RAID driver being loaded into initrd and not the filesystem module? Is it also possible to have the module load elsewhere before the boot process loads /etc/fstab, instead of puting it in a ramdisk image?

here is your problem...
the correct format will be somehing like INITRD_MODULES="reiserfs,3w-9xxx"
maybe there is a space after the comma, im not sure, look it up.

or, read 'man mkinitrd' that takes modules to include as parameters.

OR... recompile the kernel... selecting those 2 modules to be compiled into the kernel, rather than as modules, then you will not need an initrd file. thats what i do.

Thats good to know for next time... thanks. I had actually gone in and modified the initrd file manually by mounting it as a loopback device and manually adding the file and modifing the script on the root of the initrd file. But I'll keep that in mind next time. Thanks.
