I have a new camera, an olympus FE-370. It has a micro sd card with a different adaptor for the camera and computer. The computer is running ubuntu 8.10. I took a set of photos and transfered them to the computer by removing the card from the camera and putting it in the computer. This pretty much worked except that I tried to remove the pictures from the card using the command line, and found that the next day they were still there. I expect this is a permission problem.
The main problem is that I took another set of pictures today, and when the memory card is in the computer I cannot find them anywhere, neither using cli or gui, regular user or root. I checked the hidden files, which showed me a .Trash folder, but still can't find the new pictures anywhere. When the card is in the camera, it will show me the new pictures just fine. I'm stumped.
sometimes when you perform a write activity, it won't immediately effect on the storage. If you remove the storage too early it will corupt the data. Thats why we need to click the unmount or eject the devives. In command line you can type 'sync' to force why immediately.
I don't think that's the problem because ubuntu mounts the card automatically and I am anal about unmounting them before removing them. Also, the pictures are there when I put the card in the camera, but not on the computer. I know the card is mounted because I can see the old pictures, which were supposed to be removed.
Can you see them if you use F-Spot? That is what I use to transfer photos directly from my camera, it maybe that it is not as straight forward as them being saved on the memort card in the normal way.
