Missing Diskspace?

I was running out of disk space. I had about 1.8Gb left on my drive. I decided to delete some large files that I had been seeding which totaled to about 6.8Gb. I am using uTorrent with wine; I went into uTorrent and just decided to "Remove Data" from there. The files had been removed, but I still had 1.8Gb of free space. I have emptied the trash can and checked other places I thought it maybe. I am a noob in linux, but I can get myself around in it.

cascomp home # du -sch ./*
27G ./casper
27G total
cascomp home # cd casper
cascomp casper # du -sch ./*
6.7G ./Desktop
12K ./Essay1.odt
412K ./Guitar_Hero_III_Legends_Of_Rock_NTSC_Custom-[cdcovers_cc]-front.jpg
8.0K ./Incomplete
224K ./Projects
440K ./Screenshot.png
4.0K ./Shared
3.7M ./Textbook.pdf
604K ./Timeshift_Dvd_Uk_pal-[cdcovers_cc]-front.jpg
0 ./TransGaming_Drive
11M ./XDVDMulleterBeta10.1.rar_FILES
4.0M ./Xbox_Backup_Creator_v2.5.0.230.zip_FILES
36K ./billView.cfm
5.8M ./bootcp
4.0K ./chipchair
44M ./framework-3.0
6.8M ./install_flash_player_9_linux
76M ./jre1.6.0_03
4.0K ./lastsync.sh
16K ./lolcats.jpg
4.0K ./lolcats.old.jpg
264K ./moblock
51M ./mono-1.2.5.2-gtksharp-2.10.2-win32-0.exe
120K ./sIM-Client.exe
120K ./securedownload.htm
80K ./slut-current.tar.bz2
208K ./users_guide.pdf
6.9G total
cascomp casper #

This makes me feel dumb, but I don't understand why I'm getting two different totals there. I can't seem to find anyone having a similar problem, but if anyone can point me in the right direction it will be very appreciated. Thank you.

In the first du you are looking at all the contents of your folder. In the second du you are not including any of the hidden (or dot) files (i.e. files that begin with ".").

Try

du -sch .*

It will also include the contents of "." and "..", but you can ignore them. And the total will be off by the amount listed in those entries combined.

I get what you're saying. I figured out that when I use utorrent to remove the files they are just getting moved. Took me little bit to find them. Thank you.
