missing device modules

I start up my Gentoo linux and everything is running fine. Then.. after I login I get all these messages saying... can't find module for [device name]. Then I don't have access to any of my devices. So.. what did I do wrong?

It comes from MODPROBE. What is modprobe? And why isn't it finding modules to use my devices?
