Minimum memry requirements

My friend has a laptop with 166Mhz processor and 32MB RAM. He wants to use for nothing other than playing mp3 files.

I want to give him Linux, but is there a nice window manager that will run on it with such low memory and speed?

acid_kewpie 03-04-2002 09:41 AM

Code:

_    _            _    _
| |__ | | __ _  ___| | _| |__  _____  __
| '_ \| |/ _` |/ __| |/ / '_ \ / _ \ \/ /
| |_) | | (_| | (__|  <| |_) | (_) >  <
|_.__/|_|\__,_|\___|_|\_\_.__/ \___/_/\_\

RAHHHHHH

hahaha... i love that response, acid. :-)

blackbox would def be the best choice for a low memory system. windowmaker is good too, but takes up a few more resources than BB.

just don't use gnome or kde... doubt they'd run very well.

Thanks for the help.

I will have to play around with Blackbox though, as at home I use KDE.

ShadowHacker, you should also try Fluxbox. It uses almost as little memory as blackbox but has some nice extra features that make things easier to use. Tabs for one.
