MINGETTY - Is there a way to turn it off

Hi,
Is there a way to turn off mingetty. The reason i ask is because no one should be able to ssh into the server. The only person who should be using the server is the person who is directly connected and sitting in front of the server.

I have read about mingetty and I think that is what resolves the signon screen. If mingetty is turned off, i assume ssh sessions will not be able to connect because there is nothing that will resolve the signon screen for them.

Can you tell Im a bit confused

THanks

why do you not just remove the ssh server??? in order to ssh into a box, you HAVE to have specifically loaded the sshd services on boot, just remove the package.

mingetty is the general login console controller yes, but it also does all the local stuff too, such as your windows 1-6:-

---- from /etc/inittab
# Run gettys in standard runlevels
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty1
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2
3:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty3
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty4
5:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty5
6:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty6

you stop mingetty, you're really not gonna get much doing after that.....

I didnt know if removing the sshd server would do it. I removed the telnet server and yet people can telnet on specified ports.

I will turn off sshd to see if that works.

Thanks for your help
