Migration from MSDOS partition table to GPT

As in the thread I would like to migrate from one to another partition table, but I don't want to lose any data. Reason for migration is I want to use EFI rather than BIOS. Is it possible? I don't want to waste my time for installing everything from scratch. And I wonder if Windows 7 will be fine after this kind of migration?

Backup? These days storage (external hard drives for backup) is very cheap (for my country, not sure about yours), you can just grab one and backup the partition and you are done.

Shall it be all fine if I copy partition from one partition table into another? It's my first time playing with partition tables so I don't know too much.

EDIT: Maybe I should rather copy just files from one partition into another on new partition table?

Copy the whole partition that is in a partition table to another different partition table?

Better make another partition in another partition table and copy them to there.

That's a scary thought.
Make sure you have good backups - of everything.

There is a utility similar to fdisk for GPT - called gdisk. Homepage is here.
Read all the doco - a relevant quote
