migrating accounts from maching and distribution version
 

I have several questions regarding moving accounts from one system to another. I am going to ask them all here, however, if it is more appropriate to ask them separately, please let me know and I will comply.

I have an existing FC1 mail server with about 10 users. Each user as a real account. I am using Postfix as the MTA and am also using the horde applications (which are excellent!). One of the main functions of horde on this server, besides email, is providing access to a file access area. (This server serves the members of our small company and we are scattered across the globe. All access to this file area is through horde).
Users have also been able to access their mail via pop3 and IMAP

I am looking to migrate to another physical machine. The new one will have FC3.

I am looking to have the user accounts as mysql accounts instead of regular user accounts, however, the two users who can become super users must still (at least I believe) have user accounts.

Enough with the background, get to the questions!!

Ok,

1) How can I migrate the user accounts? I would like to be able to do this without the users intervention, but this is not a requirement. If necessary, I can jest create the new accounts and tell the user the temporary password and let them change it as desired.

2) Some of the users leave their mail on the server using both pop3 and IMAP. Can I migrate this existing mail as well?

3) Having user accounts had made the permissions in the file access area very easy to deal with. Will I be able to do this with mysql accounts?

4) As I have a mysql backend on the current server and am going to use it on the new one, I am assuming mysql accounts are the best option for me. If this is not, please recommend something better.

I dont know what it is with you people and wanting to take linux users and turn them in to sql users.

Say it after me. The OS is different than SQL. SQL is an application that sits on the OS.

IF you're looking to move the 8 users over to a web based mail with an SQL backend, then set them up as new users under the mail and tell them what their usernames are and give them default jumbled passwords like jkl280sjIKWS and let them know they need to change them in a week. As for the 2 that use root, and really they should be using sudo - by the way. They continue to have regular user accounts.

Perhaps I wasn't clear when I said the users had linux accounts. Although that is the way they were set up, the users never logged into the system and only access the server through the designated web interface. Hence, they do not need true linux accounts.
