I'm still a bit green at Linux - not enough that the terminal scares me, but I still need help with my 'networking' by figuring out which programs do what. I'm still newly switched from Windows (though I've had a love affair with Linux live OSes for everytime I'm in between Windows OSes) and finally made the switch to Ubuntu. I have Wine installed for windows programs, and recently got a bit frustrated with OO Base, and went to install Microsoft Access (which I have training with) and while trying to figure out my install, Wine tells me it doesn't have any programs that read the 'autorun.inf' file. A little google fu tells me I kinda need an .inf reader for autorunning cds, dvds and the like, so... anyone know where I can get the file? I tried to go through the Windows site and get the drivers downloaded for it, but I've hit a dead end. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I never bothered with the autorun, and just ran the Setup.exe which is usually in the same dir.

An autorun file is really just a simple text script that tells the system which other files to launch. Open it up in a text editor (or simply use cat autorun.inf), to see which .exe file it launches (most likely just the obvious install.exe), and then go use that instead.

But keep in mind that Wine can have issues with Microsoft Access, as you can see here.

Well, I tried to just use the .exe, but it said I was missing an msmxl something, and I went and found what Microsoft SAYS will install it, downloaded and 'installed' it in Wine, but it still won't work. So is it like iTunes, you just need an older copy that's compliant with Linux?

Install winetricks, this will help you to install all the needed stuff.
