Hello,

I plan on starting my own web site, and I need some help figuring out what to use for HTML creation. I know a lot of people use FrontPage, but then again, lots of people use Microsoft Windows, and it sucks. So FrontPage might suck too. I tried using Macromedia Dreamweaver, but the trial edition kind of stunk.

So, what should I use? I at first, wanted to use a free HTML creation program, but now I think I will have to break down and buy a program. I really don't want to support Bill Gates' evil empire, but if it(FrontPage) is a good program, I will use it.

Now that I think about it, are there any other programs I should look at?

Yeah, that helped. I think. If you are referring to learning HTML code, I'm working on that. But I don't want to learn a billion different commands for something that can be created graphically. I am learning a few HTML codes, so that I can "tweak" what I create.

I've made a few websites of late, and as strange as it sounds, learning the code is the best way to go. I make webpages anywhere, using VIM in Linux or Notepad in Windo$e. Graphical editors are ok, but you still have to learn how they work, etc-why not just learn the code?
If you really want a graphical editor-try Director from Macromedia or buy the full version of Dreamweaver (it's pretty good, once you learn it) But HTML or XHTML or even XML is pretty easy to learn-I didn't even try to learn the whole language, just keep a GOOD reference book close by.

I use CoolEdit. Syntax hilighting am goal.

I mostly use Mozilla, not because it's particular great but I can use it on linux as wel as unther NT (at work of course ;) . It does the job, and you can switch fast from edit to preview to source edit.

You could use gEdit within GNOME. It places the html tags as you type, I guess that would be a good way to learn, typing by hand your documents, and it puts the tags in there for you on your actions. Like when you want to center text, it will automatically put the <center>whatever</center> in there for ya. Good way to learn code and also having more control over it.

Just a suggestion.

By the way. Does any1 know if there is a Linux version of Dreamweaver ( I know there is a mac one, but...)
