Mic on webcam won't work

I'm running RedHat 9, and the webcam is a QuickCam Pro 3000.
I can take pictures with camstream, but when I try to record sound it doesn't work.
(The program i'm using to record is the "Sound Recorder" under the "Sound and Video" menu).
The microphone works with Windows 2000, so I know it's not a hardware problem.
I haven't installed any additional drivers, i'm just using the ones that came with RH 9. I believe there for a Phillips Webcam, but i'm not sure since it has always loaded the drivers automatically.
Any ideas?

You can go check out the status of your webcam here. I have the logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 and the sound doesn't work either. I don't think they have developed the drivers for it yet.

Make sure you e-mail logitech, as I did, telling them that you are not happy that they do not make drivers for Linux. Tell them you will be using there competitors products from now on since there lack of support for alternative operating systems is null.
