Message length in the 'REPLY' window

Hi folks,

Occasionally in replying a posting the message in the REPLY window becomes too long. Clicking 'Check message length' it indicates 'Your messessage is 1359 characters long...' This becomes very inconvient. I have to slide acoss the REPLY' window to read my typing.

Kindly advise how to limit its width to about 583 characters which is the normal/usual case.
