Hello and welcome to LQ. Hope you like it here.
When Entered text which is started with a "."(dot) The details from next line onwards & the remaining body of a mail message are getting truncated in the mail In brief any mail body contaning a "." (dot) in the begning of the line truncated the remaning mail.. If you speak to the MTA directly (say telnet) a line starting with a dot means end of message. How is the email submitted to the MTA? Can you avoid starting a line with a dot (which isn't logical anyway I think)? please mail me... Basic rule: ask a question here, expect answers here. Don't ask for email. It is not efficient for LQ. |
hi,
point well taken, will follow, getting use to this forum.. Regarding the problem, will have to do a rely, cannot send directly to MTA, not permitted.. nilesh |

You mean "relay"? What return code does the sendmail log give? |
HI,
Sorry for that spelling, bit of heavy work going on, I meant relay.. Well, i tried to debug, but the log says the mail is sent, no exceptions..at all... the recipient get the message truncated. |
the recipient get the message truncated.
- Are there any interesting X-headers added that may give a clue? cannot send directly to MTA, not permitted - Are you using your ISP's MTA's or are you using an unauthorised relay? - Can you avoid starting a line with a dot? |
Is it the mail client that's truncating the mail or the mail server?
Many command-line mail clients (e.g. mailx) can be configured to interpret a lone period as signifying the end of a message. Check for an option like 'set dot' in the config file. |
