mepis ... trying to

Hi All

my installation of Mepis 2004.05 seemed to have gone seems to be such a great distro.... allows me to boot into linux 2.4.25 or 2.6.4 ... but when i started getting in closer... i have a few problems.... the first is with ther kernal source... when trying to configure the Alsa drivers for my Asus motherboard 2.4.25 couldn't find certain things... 2.6.4 seemed to have more of the source but stopped later during the config.... also.. my hp 2175 psc printer spits out paper...using the same driver that i use under Mandrake... tried both kernals...same results... does anyone have any suggestions.... or are these problems i have to investigate deeper?

everything in dmesg, lsusb etc seems to be configured i missing something?

any suggestions?
