Mepis Cable Install can't stop eth0!

Ok, I finally decided to stop running Mepis off the live cd again and give up some Windoze space to a Linux partition for Mepis. I remembered from doing this before that if I wanted to configure my cable modem I needed to go into the OSCenter, open Network Interfaces, click on the eth0 and make sure it is running "stop" not "start" But even though I clicked on that it won't stop??? I clicked on eth1 and it will stop. (unfortunately that doesn't bring up the net for me) can anyone help me with this?

Ok, I haven't solved my problem, but I did find a temporary work around. Although I cannot stop eth0, I hit stop on eth1 and suddenly the net works. But even though I save changes to this setting eth1 is down at every re-start again??? Can anyone explain how to either save this setting (so I won't have re-enable this everytime) or explain how I can get eth0 to stop?
