I doubt that ;)
You've installed RedHat Linux 8.0 :)
Stable release of linux is now at 2.4.20

It would help if you'd told us what windowmanager you're using but as you're talking about the menu I'm going to assume it's gnome. Just drag and drop the icon in the taskbar if you want it there or add an entery in the menu (right-click on the foot (or redhat icon) and 'add entry'. I'm wondering if that's for gnome actually, can someone check this?
And btw, welcome to linuxquestions :)

redhat 8 puts the openoffice in the main menu - and on the "task bar". also were you provided the option of putting an icon on the desktop or main menu when you installed staroffice? Sun has put a hell of a lot of time and money into staroffice so I find it hard to believe that they would allow you to install it on one of the most used distro's of linux and then make it difficult for you to find.

No they did not mention about putting and icon on the menu.

For me to access the file i need to go into Terminal and then login as root
I installed the staroffice under usr/staroffice/. To open the staroffice i need to enter this command : . /soffice . If i enter :soffice the system will prompt error.Only if i enter ./soffice then only the application will load,

I still cannot get the staroffice icon to be display on the menu

sorry for my english

If you're using Gnome, have you tried right-clicking on the panel, selecting ``Add to Panel -> Launcher'' ? When the form is displayed, try entering the ``Command'' as ``/usr/staroffice/soffice'' (hope I have that path correct), and then clicking on `OK'. I'd imagine that there's a nifty StarOffice icon that you could add to the panel button as well. If you can't fiind it right away, you can add it later by right-clicking on the button and selecting ``Properties'' and either select one from the ones displayed or browse until you find SO's. Just be careful when right-clicking on the buttons. It's awfully easy to accidently select ``Remove from panel''. =:-O

Good luck,

Rick

staroffice? oh. well - openoffice should be available if you installed via disk and it puts links in the proper places.
