Memory regions - please describe

I attend on an optional Embedded Linux course and there is a test waiting for me at 4.04.2006 for which I have to be prepared from inter alia "memory regions". I've searched the web and can't find an actual description of this term. Can someone describe it in, say, 2-3 sentences? Something like a wikipedia introduction.

All I can think of is "memory map"--I am guessing that it refers to the way in which an OS uses memory--ie what goes where.
Can you ask the instructor for clarification---or is there some context in the course notes that would give a clue.

Try google searches using "memory utilization", "memory map", "memory management"
Also, the same terms with "Linux" added or maybe even "embedded linux"
