Memory Issues in Gnome

I am trying to run Redhat 7.2 on a fairly new box with 128 MB of SDRAM (PC 100). Anyway, the system req's on Redhat are 32 MB of RAM, 64 MB for the GUI. However, when I log into gnome everything is extremely slow. When I check the system monitor, it tells me that about 95% of my memory is already in use!

Anyone ever seen anything like this before? The most conspicuous memory hog appears to be Nautilus, but I've never seen Linux do a worse job managing memory than *gasp* Windows, so I'm at a complete loss how to even approach this...

Anyways, any help would be appreciated!

hello,
do you have a swap partition - nad is it on? it is normal for windows to use all the memory, it caches most stuff. is this teh normal gnome - or is it enlightenment?

nautilus is quite a memory hog. it'd be good not to use it. personally, i find it ridiculous.
