I know that Linux uses virtual memory very aggressively and simply keeps things in the cache and does away with them as needed. When I have my machine up for 8 days or more the virtual memory slowly decreases to zero which I understand. After the 8 days my physical memory begins to go down as well. I have 256mb of ram and it is down to 75mb and virtual memory is at zero. Top does not show any programs hogging the memory.
I was under the impression that Linux does not use the physical memory(ram) as aggressively as the virtual memory. Am I wrong? Is this type of low memory normal?

I notice that too, my machine runs for maybe 5 hours then really slows down, and i clear the caches and history and it dosnt speed up unless i reboot. what the bloody depths of hell could cause that?
