MPlayer is probably your best bet for a all-around *nix movie player. For Real Audio, you can get an XMMS plugin for it (don't remember where). Quicktime I'm not so sure about.

Quicktime never worked for me in Linux.

RealPlayer8 is good for the video--try Xine as well.

XMMS will take care of all your mp3 needs.

Quicktime is frustrating, I could never get it (or find it) for Linux

I get quicktime working like a champ in the crossover plugin www.codeweavers.com/products ya it's 15 bucks but big deal it's nice to have it plus they got a free trial version.

Thanks, do-guh-new. That's pretty reasonable and lots of websites are using Quicktime (only) now.

Mplayer has support for realaudio/media if you install the linux version of RealPlayer 8.Add the V9 codec upgrade too and mplayer will use them.It also has support for quicktime which I haven't had the chance to use yet.

Thanks for that one too.

Thanks guys.

For the most part, you can play .mov (quicktime) movies in mplayer with just using the win32 codecs. There are as well quicktime specific codecs you can use, check out google.com/linux for a bit more info on getting/installing these.

Cool

Quickime and WinMediaPlayer from
http://www.codeweavers.com/home

Fingel 02-14-2003 08:59 AM

Actually, Mplayer has codecs for realplayer, quicktime, windows media player, basically anything right on their site.. when i compile it i make sure to get all codecs and divx also..

acid_kewpie 02-14-2003 01:31 PM

you don't need to get any extra divx codecs for player, comes with 'em in ffmpeg's libavcodec
