!

I have the same problem with my RH 8.0 (at 7.3 it was all right), so I've installed mplayer and using it.

Never the less, it would be interesting for me to find out why this happends and how I can fix it?

Another problem - why RH8.0's xmms doesn't play any sound?

Are you trying to use RH 8.0's XMMS for playing mp3s? I't won't, as Red Hat can't distribute the XMMS mp3 plugin due to some sort of patent issue.

If you live somewhere where the mp3 patent doesn't apply (or dont' mind entering the legal grey-area that applys to the mp3 plugin), then go to www.xmms.org. I believe there is a link to the plugin for download on the front page.

But why xmms from RH 7.3 disributive are working correctly (i using it insteed 8.0's one)?
I thougt, that this sort of problem (konquerror's error while playing mpg, xmms e.t.c.)exists because RH 8.0 is not enough stable version of OS (as 7.3 was).

You can just use [apt-get install xmms-mp3] and all will be well. RH 7.3 included the mpeg decoder, 8.0 did not because of perceived rights issues. If you haven't installed apt-get and synaptic yet, go here -> http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=1890&page=4 Apt-get and synaptic are the best package tools to ever come out for Redhat. Try it, you'll like it.
