media player for linux

Where can I found media player for redhat advance server 3.0.The current available programmes are not able to open the .dat file.

mplayer, xine, vlc, totem just to name a few.
What is a .dat file anyway?
Do you have the right codec?

Are you actually using RH AS as a desktop? How bizarre.

That said, .dat certainly isn't anything that I'd recognise as a
multimedia file extension; what is it supposed to be?

The .dat file comes from VCDs iirc. Just open Xine and click on the button that says VCD. If it's configure correctly, they'll play.

I mean to say that whatever file windows media player able to play or the real player able to open.

Agrouf 06-20-2006 04:45 AM

mplayer -vcd 1 -cdrom-device /dev/hdc
windows media player isn't able to open anything without the right codec.

download the windows codecs for mplayer at www.mplayerhq.hu/
gmplayer is a graphical frontend for mplayer
