mc undelete

Anyone know what mc undelete is in linux?

peter_robb 11-07-2002 01:45 PM

If it is the same, mc is Midnight Commander.
It's a graphical non-X11 file manager interface

I use it a lot, nice features.

The Undelete function uses the extfs2 & extfs3 file tables to record where deleted files are on the disk and offer you the chance to recover them.

If you've ever used XTree Gold, it's the same feature.

Thank you.. Sounds sweet..

yeah... sounds sweet until you try using it :-(

I ran the undelete from MC, and about a half an hour later it was ready for me to select what I wanted to recover..... there was a list of thousands of files, all with digital names.... nothing resembling what they were before.

so good luck if you want to try, but I would suggest not even having it in your head to rely on.

p.s.- if anybody knows how to recover them w/out trying each one, please correct me
