Max IP Address's Per server

Quick question, Is there a max number of ip's you can asign to a linux server? I am using webmin to assign ip's to my server and right now it has 53 different ip's on it (its a webserver, 1 ip per site) I am adding them as virtual interfaces under eth0. I think this is fine but I wanted to make sure as this server is used quite hard and I don't want anything like that wrong. Thanks

Not that I'm an expert in this area by any means, but why not just use the VirtualHost directive rather than virtual ethX devices? It just seems wrong somehow

We have found that when you do the dns and websites as one ip to one website, they have much better performence and less problems. With this setup we have not had a single problem that wasn't just user problems in over a year with the server, but this server is getting quite a few site's on it now and I didn't want to overload it on ip's.

Now the funny thing is this server replaced a windows server that was maxed out and the windows server was on better hardware. this server is running at 99% free resources :-)

So yes I could just do VirtualHosts's by name and not ip, but we have seen it as more stable running one ip per site, I just didn't know if I would run into a problem now that I am getting so many ip's on the server.
