manual pages


when i do
> man -k user
user: nothing appropriate

> man -k finger
finger: nothing appropriate

what's wrongs?

this will return every instance of user and finger in the man pages


what exactly are you looking for

On the other system i recieve response like...

> man -k finger
chfn (1) - change your finger infor
finger (1) - user information lookup
fingerd (8) - remote user information
fingerd [in] (8) - remote user information
pinky (1) - lightweight finger

try man adduser



does man --help show the -k option?


what happens with -K

well it works for man useradd
but not the k option
the k option is showed in --help :-

> man --help
~....
h : print this help message
k : same as apropos(1)
K : search for a string in all pages
~

and try apropos user


or /usr/bin/apropos user
