Installed Mandy 8.0 without KDE or GNOME, but when I give the command "startx" as root, GNOME starts up. I have no idea what's going on. Any and all help is appreciated.
It means that GNOME is installed if you want to change to different window manager edit your .xinitrc in user's home directory (for root it is /root/.xinirc) comment out the entry with preceding # and add
exec /path/to/your/fav/wm
Are you looking at /root in X? If so, then you won't be able to see .xinitrc You will have to open a Console and cd /root and then kwrite (or whatever program you prefer) .xinitrc
Or if you just want to check and make sure it's there, type ls -.xin and it will pop up.
