Mandrake linux 9.2 Screen goes blank + no response to user input

I was wondering is someone could help me with a problem i am currently having and have not experienced before. With my new installation of mandrake linux 9.2 on my 700 mhz celeron system with 128mb of ram and a built in video card ( I use this server just as a webserver and to mess around with different stuff, it is a learning tool ) Anyway I find that after a very brief period of inactivity maybe 10 - 15 mins the screen goes blank and it is not the KDE screen saver, but it is totally blank and it does not respond at all to user input, even though my optical mouse still is glowing red and the keyboard num lock light is on. ctrl + alt + dlt yields nothing, I have to hold down the power button for 5 sec. This happens in failsafe ( selecting from mandrake gui box) and I could not reproduce the error with the failsafe at the lilo screen because for some reason when I try and login as my user on that it says incorrect password ( I currently log in as root ). Any help at all would be much appreciated, thanks

Mandrake installs are flakey...

I used to use Madrake back in the day, but after around version 7 or 8, whicher they called "troptical" or something to that affect, I gave up on Mandrake, and went to Redhat.... I've heard of tons of people having issues installing mandrake, and if I remember correctly it's all about your hardware, or more specifically your chipset....

Do a google search on mandrake linux problems with installation chipsets etc... you'll see what I mean.

Switch to another Distro, I personally used to love Mandrake, but ever since they started releasing distro's with glitchy installers I was forced to switch.... I've used Redhat ever since, and I am amazed at how easy a clean install is, or a kernel update, plus RPMS are really handy when you don't have a complier on hand.

Just my 2 cents.
