Mandrake Linux 9.1 Installation

Please could anyone help me, i installed mandrake linux 9.1 and it asks me for a name and password but i chose NO PASSWORD at the installation options. I thought that you could enter one there like you do with windows for a login in by its not the same with linux.

I am newish to this and i got my freind to install it on my laptop but i dont know if the software has a default password that you have to enter on request.

please help.

Linux wants you to set the root (Administrator) password....But in some distributions linux wanna in Install to create you an basic user with no adin privilegues....its recomennded to create user With pass..;]...You cant use root with no pass...so.....tell me more about the problem.....

thanks for your reply about a root password, i went through the installation process and i set up a root password with a user account and it seems to work.
