I am using Mandrake 8.2 with a Voodoo 3500 card. When I try to change resolutions (ctrl/alt/+ or -), the resolution changes for a couple of seconds (and during this time I cannot move my mouse), and then X dumps me back out to the log-in screen.

I also get dumped back out to login when I try running any full-screen game (TuxRacer or NetHack-Falcon's Eye, for example).

Any ideas?

First check your latest errorlog that X spits out when it crashes
in /var/log/XFree86.0.log, maybe that gives a clue.
Try in your XF86Config-4 file another DefaultColorDepth
like 24 or 16 (32=24 bpp in X, i saw somewhere, so don't use 32?)
and get rid of the modes in subsection 'Sreen' you
know you wont use anyway.

Oh and check your refresh rates; when changing resolution
the refresh rate also alters, could be that it is just over the limit
so decrease it a little, 85 hz in 1280x1024 is fine imho. (But i
think its problably not related to this problem)
