Making space on harddrive (its full!)

Hi,

Im bit of a newbie to linux (redhat 9)

I need to make room on my redhat drive as its full to the top.(5.6GB)

I've tried removing packages, however they dont relief any space

All i use my RH machine for is testing wireless security for a project. So i dont need things like office programs and stuff.

Also, is there any logs i can remove to help? My machine runs 24/7.

Help!

Thanks

Well you have to do some thinking as to what you need and what you don't need. I don't know what packages you have installed exactly so its hard to say. If you use KDE and have Gnome installed then uninstall gnome. Things like that. Freeing up some log files won't save you a lot of space really.

I've tried uninstalled the office suite and games etc, it says they have been removed , but the drive is full.

This might sound stupid, but what the differnce between KDE and Gnome and how can i tell if they are installed? Ami right thinking thats how the desktop, menus are done?

The Redhat installation on the drive i was given had all the packages installed i think.
