making local users from NIS passwd

hello all,

I have a quick question hopefully. I want to make a local login for my users on one machine so that I can give them quota support.
I want to copy their password from the NIS information to the local user, so that they don't notice any difference.

I know I can use the
ypcat passwd | grep user
but how do I pass this to the new user password?

thanks,

Paul

ok well I sort of have an answer. I'm making a dirty perl script to do the ypcat passwd | grep user and then take out what I don't need increase the UID and change the home space and username. Then print it to /etc/passwd

So I guess this works, its automated at least.
