making an ISO from a CD???

i tried dd last night on a home made CD and it was 1/10th the size it should be. the CD is roughly 400M, yet the ISO was roughly 40M what gives?

the command i used was:

Code:
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=cd.iso
after mount /dev/cdrom and mkdir /home/user/test

i then naivaged to /home/user/test and ran the dd command and got the 1/10 size ISO from the CD with no errors.

i tried using alcohol 120% in winXP to make the ISO, but it gives disk read errors. this is not a PROTECTED CD as it is one i made. yes it is a bootable CD.

so help, what gives, etc...

thanks.

When you run dd does the number in match the number out?

Could you copy the files to a different location just to make sure it can actually read the disk?

Have you looked to make sure it is clean or without scratches? If you look at the back side of the disk does it look like there are actually 400 mb worth of info written to it?

yes the numbers were the same. yes it can read the disk, and no it is not scratched and does appear to have roughly 400M worth of data as the disk is more then 2/3 written.
