Mailing Lists - Using them, not making them

I have got to the point in Linux where I want to use archived Mailing Lists (eg. ximian users mailing list, mozilla mailing list) to gather information. But I have a few questions that I can't find answers for.

None of these archive lists seem to have a search method other than physically looking month by month for a particular topic. Am I missing something?

I see sourceforge has programs like 'mail2news'. Are they for creating mailing lists, or, for reading mailing lists, or, both? Should I (an ordinary home desktop user) download one for browsing mailing lists?

I read late last night (I think -- it was real late) of a way to use google to search a mailing list. Now I can't find the reference. Is it possible to use google? How?

Thanks.

Bill

Yes. Basically, you tell Google to look inside a specific website.

In the case of ximian, the archives are at http://lists.ximian.com
Simply add the phrase
To your search to search the archives.

While the Mozilla mailing list does not have a web archive, it has a Usenet group, which is also archived by Google. Look in:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...public.mozilla
