Mail Queue failures

My mailqueue has 66 requests, all of them MAILER-DAEMON messages stating that the connection was refused.

The server name, let's say, is SERVER, and the message says: Deferred: Connection refused by SERVER

So this server is refusing to send mail to itself from itself?

Anyone have any suggestions? Send mail is working because the server sends me a daily status report, which I receive.

I appreciate any help you can give, and I will gladly provide whatever further information is needed (presuming I can find it).

Thanks

No, your in the right place, you just have to be patient at times. This is a site where volunteers come to help others in their own free time.

Now, if you post the exact error messages or returned mail, that might help. Any other details like connection type, if your using DHCP or static IP and where these emails are trying to be sent to, would be helpful. If you are on a cable connection or the like, it could be blocked by hostname and IP from your ISP. A lot of ISP's do not like smtp servers that are DHCP and or not registered mail servers, they treat them like spam.

Other things to look for are, your getting other messages daily, were these sent to localhost or an IP address instead of an actual hostname or domain? If the messages being rejected are named based, you probably have a DNS issue on the machine and or network.

But more details always get better responses.

Heh, I was being patient, but noticed it got pushed to the second page but didn't want it to get lost. I totally understand and appreciate that ya'all volunteer to help dummies like me learn their way around.

This is on a static IP, connected to a router. The router is plugged into a T1 connection. There shouldn't be anything being blocked at the router for this. The messages that are going out are sent to actual email addresses (me@domain.com) The messages all seem to be rejected by localhost with localhost as the destination.
