mail not sending

We have a redhat 9 with php and mysql, problem now is mail wont send anymore, mail is sent through php mail function, we just relay our email to another mail server, below is the log in the var/logs/maillog

Code:
Jul 28 08:37:23 localhost sendmail[7558]: j6S43H9O006736: to=<name@domainname.com>, ctladdr=<name_demo@localhost.localdomain> (506/506), delay=11:34:06, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=1110359, relay=mailserv.domainname.com, dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection timed out with mailserv.domain.com.

by the way using another box, even windows with php I can send and receive email using the same configuration.

Also not sure if this is the problem

I did try to telnet, mailserv.domain.com @ port 25 and I got a connection timeout from that box.

Maybe some configuration on sendmail is messed up?

Thanks

Timeout errors usually indicate that mail isn't running.. whatever it is your using, either sendmail, postfix, qmail.. etc.. ??

It sounds like a firewall problem.

Hi,

Now I did try to use another relay server, using telnet I was able to connect to the new mail server and was able to send and receive the email,

Now I change my sendmail.mc and uncomment this one and add my new relay mail server
define(`SMART_HOST',`newmailserver.domainname.com')

and m4 it.

now I got a new error, still i wasnt able to receive the mail
Code:
Jul 28 **:33:54 localhost sendmail[3876]: STARTTLS=client,
relay=newmailserver.domainname.com., version=TLSv1/SSLv3, verify=FAIL,
cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA, bits=256/256

Jul 28 **:33:54 localhost sendmail[3876]: j6T4Xs1k003873:
to=<username@dummy.com>,
ctladdr=<user_name@localhost.localdomain> (505/505), delay=00:00:00,
xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30337,
relay=newmailserver.domainname.com. [*ip address*], dsn=5.6.0,
stat=Data format error

Jul 28 **:33:54 localhost sendmail[3876]: j6T4Xs1k003873:
j6T4Xs1k003876: DSN: Data format error
maybe still need some config to do?

thanks
