mac to linux

hello my friend he gave me a mac powerbook G3 laptop and i want to install linux on. I never used mac before and this is my frist time using it. first i want to test the laptop if it ok to install linux on it by this i am going to boot the ubuntu live cd in it, but the problem is I don't know how to boot from the mac

I also google on the net to find the answer it say hold down the option or the c key, i did this, it didn't work

ah i don't know the option key is lol it is the alt key or somthing

i nerver used mac in my life so i don't know anything

so please help me thx

you can install linux on your mac notebook but you would have to download the PPC version of the linux distro. now i use ubuntu my self and i know that they make a PPC live cd as well. did you download the I386 version or the PPC if not you would have to download the PPC live cd and the PPC cd to install linux on your mac laptop

ide forget about installinx linux on it, just upgrade to the latest osx, osx is based on freebsd which is a unix port. If you run osx, you are running linux. You will have the terminal, and you can install almost any linux app. Plus you have the beutiful osx gui.

So because the OS X operating system is based on the BSD kernel, OS X is Linux?

By that logic, my Vauxhall Corsa is actually a Ferrari Diablo
