LUN has been grown. How to see available space in LVM?
 

I am running RHEL5. We have a volume group created with a SAN LUN as the backend storage. We are using multipathing to access this LUN. The storage admins have grown this LUN on their end. I would like to discover the new LUN size and add the available space to the existing volume group through LVM. I would prefer to do it without rebooting.

Would I be able to follow the 2nd posts' instructions in order to do this without a reboot? I don't believe we have any partitions set up as the whole LUN is assigned to 1 volume group, which contains 1 logical volume.

Rather than using the extendlv command, I should be able to use the LVM GUI to edit the LV and "Use remaining" space, correct?

In addition to the post in the thread you mentioned you might have a look at this very complete and easy to follow LVM HowTo. I agree with the post made by anomie in the other thread. Under normal circumstances you should be able to use only LVM commands to extend your LVM and resize the filesystem on it.
