Once in a while when I issue an ls command in a terminal window in Gnome, ls will just hang. Even if I hit ctrl-c or ctrl-z, I get nothing. I have to close the terminal through Gnome, then reboot my mahine. Once I reboot the problem usually goes away. I don't seem to have problems issuing other commands when ls is acting weird, it just seems to be ls. Also, ls doesn't do it all the time, just sometimes. There doesn't seem to be a pattern. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Thanks.
Do you have any nfs or samba shares mounted, the
machine providing that share being down/disconnected,
and maybe a symlink to those in the directory you're ls'ing in?
I think you're onto something. Yes, I do have shares setup through NFS. I have my home directory on another machine and I have that mounted on the machine that has the ls problems.
So this could be a network connectivity issue? Like I said, it seems to happen only occasionally. Anything else?
I think you're right. Thanks so much for the help.
