lpr pdf printing (even pages upside down)

Dear all,

For some time now I have noticed that my HP deskjet 5550 started wrongly printing pdf files. Every even page is turned upside down. I have looked at some cups options and it seems dat this is a feature when you are printing from a duplex in landscape mode. But the option is turned of since I do not use duplex or landscape printing.
Does anyone know a solution or knows why this could be happening?

cups : 1.1.23
kernel : 2.6.15
distribution : gentoo
computer : dell inspiron 8100
printer : HP deskjet 5550 connected to the parallel port
printerdriver : Foomatic/hpijs

Great thanks in advance,
