Low level formatting....

I have posted sort of threads looking for help installing w2k and linux distros after a virus screwed up my pc.

Since then i have tried lots to install them. But i always got a fatal error referring to the hard disk. As the root there's nothing, as a user i got an error and obviously in windw$ OS. Everything seems to be good when it just got installed, but when i restart it i got a fuc... blue screen saying a have a problem with the hard disk. I formatted it lots, even the linux distro. But it goes on.

I keep trying to install w2k, and sometimes inside the instalation process there are some files missing, and sometimes there not, even if i tried with several w2k cds.

Somebody, suggested me to format my hard disk in a low level way. Would it be the best? Can somebody teach me how to do it and what exactly does it mean?

I have nothing in it (hd). So it must boot (low level formatting file), thought....

Thanks... for your help.

Go to the website of your hard drive manufacturer and download a utility disk. This should check your hard drive, and also allow you to do a low-level format. Some even will provide a RMA number so that you can return the drive for a replacement if it's under warranty.
