i never had this problem...when my laptop battery was low,there would be a notification and then it would hibernate....but,since last week,there is no notification and laptop turns off instead of hibernating...
i checked system settings menu of gnome..everything is ok there..
oops ... right-click on the end of the gnome panel with network-manager icon etc -(that would be system tray in kde). In GNOME 3.x you must press the Alt key while right clicking to attain the same functionality.
