Lost software installers

I was just humming along, installing a bunch of RPMs, and the next day, I couldn't start either Software Manager or Package Manager.

I couldn't start them from the K menu, the console or /usr/bin.

The only way I can install RPMs now is by way of the "rpm" command in the console.

No more GUIs.

I want my GUIs back ! ! !

Mandrake 8.2

Something to try is to rebuild your rpm database:

rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
rpm --rebuilddb

This has solved a lot of my rpm issues.

kpackage problems

Each version of kpackage is highly dependent on a particular version of Qt. If you were changing Qt packages then you may have created a mismatch between kpackage and Qt.

It's difficult for me to say because I was on a sofware installing binge.

What I seem to recall was "forcing" an install, but I can't remember which one.
Maybe Phoenix?

I don't like forcing, and hardly ever do, but this time It seemed it would be harmless. Silly me!

Can these apps (Software Manager and Package Manager) be "re-installed?"
Would that even solve the problem?
Should I re-install QT ?
I looked around for them but couldn't find any.
